As Alderman, my long-time support for a living wage is well documented. Too many Chicago residents are housing cost burdened. Over 50% of households pay more than 30% of their income towards housing. This is unacceptable. As alderman, I worked to bring good-paying jobs to our community. Rush Hospital and Costco are just two examples.
As Alderman, I have also worked, whether with ministers, principals, or community groups, for example, to bring stakeholders together to yield results through collaborative exchange.
Though Chicago faces many challenges, we also have many assets. One of our great assets is an engaged and thoughtful group of affordable housing advocates and professionals. With the announcement last week regarding funding of the National Housing Trust Fund, as mayor, I plan to convene a group of affordable housing professionals to identify ways to best incorporate this resource with the resources currently at our disposal.
